FAQs & Fees

Where do we start?

I usually suggest we start with a free ‘consultation’ session – basically an initial chat to discuss your needs and objectives and my way of working. It’s an opportunity for you to ask me any questions, and for me to hear more about your current situation and what’s important for you. If there’s a good fit and you’d like to continue, we then design the framework of the coaching relationship together and book the first session.

Alternatively, if you want to get started with the coaching process immediately, I extend the first session by 30 minutes (this part is free) so that we can cover the consultation questions and design the coaching framework at the beginning.

How many sessions should I have? How frequently? How long is each session?

Coming from a business consultancy background, I prefer to customise the coaching relationship as much as possible for individual clients, rather than just offering standardised ‘products’. So I’d recommend we design a process that will work best for you, depending on your situation, objective/s, availability and other preferences. I can guide you through these choices and offer some advice if necessary. We can also, of course, revise or tweak this process along the way based on your feedback or changing needs.

I’d suggest you commit to at least 4 sessions so that we have a reasonable amount of time to explore issues, establish new patterns and review progress. If you’re coming with complex, longstanding challenges, I expect we’d need more sessions.

My therapy-oriented clients often have weekly 1-hour long sessions over several months. Clients who are looking for coaching on a specific issue might prefer a block of 10 x 90 minute sessions, scheduled fortnightly. The length and frequency can also vary as you get further into the process, e.g. a more intensive initial period of ‘breakthrough’ coaching, followed by shorter and/or less frequent sessions for ongoing support.

Some clients still prefer fixed-price packages of sessions because they seem simpler or because they signal commitment to a programme of change. For this reason, I also offer a couple of package options (see question below on fees and terms). These can be a good starting point for individual customisation too.

Where/how do the coaching sessions take place?

As many of my coaching clients are based in different parts of the UK or the wider world, sessions are usually online, using Skype or Zoom. We can also connect by phone if you prefer that option.

Depending on Covid restrictions, I offer in-person coaching sessions at my home in Brighton & Hove (South England), or in London and other locations by arrangement.

What are the fees and terms?
  • I charge £75 for 1 hour coaching/therapy sessions, or £95 for 1.5 hours.
  • Discounts of 10% are available with advance payment for multiple (10+) sessions.
  • Concessions sometimes available for lower-income clients – please ask.
  • Fees for longer workshop-style sessions (2hrs +) can be quoted on request.
  • Surcharges will be discussed and added for significant travel time if meeting at your home or office.

If you represent a business / organisation and would like to discuss coaching for employees as a way to support your organisational change process, please contact me for more details. I would be happy to provide a proposal and a quote.

Payments are usually made by online bank transfer in advance of sessions. I recommend TransferWise or similar for international payments. I can also accept cheques, or cash for in-person sessions. If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, please do so at least 48 hours in advance or you will be liable for the full cost.

Packages

Some clients prefer fixed-price packages of sessions because they seem simpler or because they signal commitment to a programme of change. For this reason, I also offer a couple of package options. These can be a good starting point for individual customisation too.

What else do I need to know?

Bring a pen and paper to your coaching sessions so that you can jot down key points and agreed actions. It’s also useful to spend a bit of time beforehand thinking about any current issues you would like to discuss, as well as progress made or challenges faced since the previous session.

To help this process, I may suggest 1 or 2 simple ‘homework’ exercises for you to complete or think about in between our sessions.
